Dying the skins, Fez

At the leather tanneries in Fez the tanning of hides continues in the same manner as it has for at least nine centuries. The hides are first soaked in diluted pigeon excrement to soften the hide, then are soaked in vegetable dyes, left to dry, and then cut into patterns that are made into various products for sale.
